LOAD-BEARING LIFE
There comes a point when effort alone no longer carries you.
Sometimes the shift is obvious. Often it is not. Life continues, but the underlying questions begin to change: what matters, what satisfies, what deserves your energy, what no longer does. The challenge is not simply to keep going, but to decide what is worth carrying forward.
LOAD-BEARING LIFE explores that shift through seven forces—Strength, Depth, Resilience, Influence, Love, Money, and Legacy—drawing on architecture as a way to understand what carries weight, what falls out of proportion, and what needs reinforcement.
What began as a private book for my sons gradually became something meant to travel further. Its stories move through boardrooms and hospital rooms, across cultures and relationships, through money, family, loss, and starting again.
Each chapter turns lived experience into a practical blueprint for seeing more clearly, recovering without repeating the past, staying steady under pressure, influencing without controlling, loving without losing yourself, and choosing what matters.
This is not a book about decline or reinvention. It is about knowing what to keep, what to release, and how to build a life that fits the person carrying it.
